At long last, our eighth baby is here and he decided to be born on Christmas Eve!
My due date was December 18th, and I was really hoping he would decide to come then, but as the days passed and we got closer to Christmas I honestly gave up caring. I just wanted to have him come!
I’d like to introduce Jackson Kirby Allen!
Jackson has the same meaning as Sean’s name (God is Gracious) and Kirby is after Sean’s Grandpa who passed away when Carrianna was a baby. We loved him dearly and still miss him, and I’m thrilled to pass on the stories to our own little guy of who he is named after.
He was born at 7:24 PM on Christmas Eve, and weighs 8 lbs 1 ounce. His birth went well, even though while I was in it I felt like it was taking forever. In reality, it was only a few hours long from start to finish! I started having more intense contractions around 4:00 in the afternoon, I called my midwife at 4:30 to come, and I had him just 3 hours later!
Once again I fell in love with home births all over again. I’m so thankful for who I had surrounding me, my midwife knew I had a preference in which assistant came and it worked out to where she was able to come. The midwives and Sean worked super hard to make my water birth a reality, we were afraid the small hot water heater in the house wouldn’t hold up and it didn’t. They started boiling huge pans of water, and the assistant took her car and kept driving back and forth to the shop house to fill up buckets of water there. I’m so thankful, as I especially needed to be in the water for his birth.
Giving birth is always a huge process of letting go and letting God be in control. Trusting Him to let the process naturally unfold, and this time was no different in trying to tell myself to wait on the Lord, to let my body relax and do what it is meant to do, and just wait.
I was starting to get discouraged and feel like he would never come, and the midwife asked if I wanted her to check me and see where I was at. I said yes, she no sooner put her glove on and I started pushing him out! He was super calm when he was born, and finally started crying after a little bit. He had the cord wrapped around his neck and also his body, so she kept him at the bottom of the pool and untangled him all first, then handed him to me. I honestly wasn’t surprised because he was so active in my womb, I had wondered if the cord might get tangled up a little bit.
I didn’t tear at all, which I was so thankful for. I partly contribute it to having a water birth, and partly because I had been using Claraderm Spray for several weeks beforehand. That stuff is amazing! After I had him I was pretty sore and I asked my midwife to spray it on me and it was instant relief. I can’t recommend it enough. I purchased it wholesale since I’m a member with Young Living.
So thankful for how supportive and loving Sean is when I’m in labor. He is always there for me, encouraging me, and we fall in love with each other just a little bit more through each birth experience.
I did a first and called a good friend of mine to come over, and then my sister also came over (she usually is here at the births). They were both great support and I’m thankful they came!
It felt wonderful to snuggle in bed afterwards, in a place I can call my own home. The Lord is truly gracious, I’m so humbled by His mercy in blessing us with another precious soul to raise.
Congratulations!
