I had no intentions of doing a 31 day series in October! I’ve done several in the past and they are a lot of work. But I suddenly thought of how much fun it would be to share 31 days of healthy living and got all excited and dived in. So here we are!
Welcome to the series!
This series is going to be held over at Instagram (I’ll be doing daily live stories, so make sure you come and follow me there!).
I’ll also be doing blog posts here.
I’d also love to invite you to join our private Facebook Group where we can share even more, and interact with each other!
It’s going to be awesome.
There might even be some fun giveaways! Wahoo!
Today I wanted to dive into sharing about one of my favorite products, and why I use it.
If you have children, chances are extremely high that you have cuts, scrapes, bruises, bites, etc. happening at your house, just like mine. From the time my children were little, I avoided using Neosporin and instead used herbal salve. This Eden Salve has been what we have used for probably the last 8 years now, and it’s a favorite of mine!
Why do I want to avoid neosporin?
Because my children seldom need an antibiotic cream. I don’t want their system getting those (yes, small, but still there) amounts of antibiotics and wear their system out for when they truly do need an antibiotic.
Because Neosporin has petroleum in it, and I avoid everything I can that has petroleum in it. Petroleum has no healing properties in it, and it’s made from a crude oil. It is a byproduct of the petroleum manufacturing process. Petrol was discovered in 1859 on an oil rig.
If the petroleum is not refined properly, it could still have toxic chemicals in it, some of which are linked to cancer. Now we have no way of knowing this for sure, but it’s interesting that the European Union puts quite a few forms of Petroleum down on a list of dangerous substances. They are much more cautious about what they allow than the USA, so it’s always good to check what they view as safe.
Why do I care about what I put on my skin, or my children’s skin? When we want to live healthier, we typically think about what we put in our bodies, but what we put on our bodies is just as important! Your skin is your largest organ, and it’s like a sponge! Body washes, lotions, deodorants, and cosmetics that you slather on your skin get absorbed into your body. If your products are filled with toxins such as lead, parabens, bismuth, endocrine-disrupting phthalates, and other harsh chemicals, they can also get absorbed into your body! Yuck!
Instead of reaching for an over the counter medicine, I have used this Eden Salve for years now, and it is amazing for cuts, scrapes, bites, rashes…you name it! It’s easy to ditch products with petroleum jelly or mineral oil in them, you just have to be aware of what you are using!
I’m going to challenge you to go find some skincare products around your house and scan them on the Think Dirty App (it’s free and so interesting!). Come back here and tell me what rating you got on your products!
