What Our Family Is Up To During This Crazy Season

You would think since I’m stuck at home all the time, I’d have even more time to blog! We actually have been so incredibly busy, it’s been hard to keep up with everything. I thought it was way past time to give an update on what we have been up to the last few weeks.

This whole virus thing? It’s been a topic of conversation that I’m kind of over. I feel like everyone out there has a super strong opinion on if the quarantine is necessary or not, if it’s constitutional, etc. etc. etc.

At this point? I just don’t know. I’ve gotten into a groove of staying at home, even though I really miss seeing friends and going to the library (super important to a homeschooler!).

We have been busy working on finishing out our house. Putting up trim, purging for a giant garage sale as soon as/if that becomes available this spring. I purchased the Your Uncluttered Home Course last year, and went through part of it again right before the virus hit. It was not a cheap investment, but the course has been awesome. I’m seriously attacking my house to become much more minimalist, and you wouldn’t believe my garage sale pile!

We have some big changes ahead of us (good changes, and no, I’m not pregnant!), so we just are working on getting ready for those changes as soon as the quarantine ends.

School has been a little more hit and miss. I’ve been trying to keep on like normal, but life is not normal right now. I think it’s the hardest for the younger children, since our teen boys are still getting out and going to their roofing job with a friend from church.

We are not letting our girls go in the stores with us, so they literally are just stuck at home all the time. They come with us on the drive to the store, and Sean stays with them in the van just to get them out of the house a little bit.

Olivia did a written narration and drawing from a book that is included in the Gentle Feast Curriculum. I love this notebook I found at Miller Pad and Paper this year at convention (the one in Texas that was shut down early). She has been drawing a lot more since we have been at home, using lots of YouTube videos to draw animals.

I had a doll tea party with the girls this last week! We used their tea cups and tea pot and had such a fun time. It was a nice distraction and something to brighten their day.

They had fun dressing up in their princess dresses!

We had a traumatic experience at the end of this week. Sophia woke up with a small spot on her foot, right under her toe that was all dark and yucky. Little did we know just how yucky it was going to get. I put oils on it and we watched it, but by the end of the day it had grown. We did a video call with our doctor and he prescribed amoxicillin, which we were not able to get filled until Friday morning.

By Friday afternoon she was in so much pain and it had tripled in size, to the point of being the size of a small plum. Seriously.

After we called our doctor again, he told us we needed to go to urgent care and have it drained. I told him I was nervous they were going to send us to Children’s Mercy hospital, so he told me to call him back again if they did that. Sure enough, that was what they said.

Long story short, the other doctor in the practice showed up at the empty office at 7:00 PM on a Friday evening to drain her foot and take care of it for us in their office. We have hands down, the best doctor’s office ever! If you live in the Kansas City area, message me if you need details! I’m not sure if they are accepting new patents right now (and they don’t take insurance), but I can’t recommend this office enough.

It was one of the absolute hardest things I’ve had to watch my child go through. It was way worse than her broken foot for me. He couldn’t numb it up, so he basically just had to lance it and go with it. :/ He said it was a blood blister. I never knew those could get like this!

We are still having her take the amoxicillin, and now that it’s open I can actually use essential oils and herbal salve on it. I’m using Oregano, Frankincense, Lemon and Tea Tree on it. It’s looking better tonight, I finally am feeling some hope! She basically has to just scoot around on the floor, she can’t walk on it until it heals up.

Whew! Parenting is always an adventure and you never know what is coming!

In other news, Sean and I are excited to be doing a webinar this Tuesday evening all about creating a side hustle. Right now I feel like so many people are realizing they need to have more streams of revenue coming in.
