Sequential Spelling Program – A Lifesaver For Busy Moms!
I look for helpful products that enable my children to do some lessons independent of me. With a husband in college full time, a business to run, a 1 and 3 year old that keep life interesting during lesson time, and all the other interruptions that happen during our day, I need a little help!
Enter Sequential Spelling. We had purchased this spelling program about 2 years ago, but I had neglected to get the DVD that went along with it. I thought I would just orally give him the spelling words.
Two years later we are still in the same spelling workbook. And it isn’t my son’s fault. Our second son is a great speller, and he loves spelling time. Because he spells so good, I just wasn’t diligent about making sure we got to it each day.
A few months ago I decided to purchase the DVD and give it a try. I am so grateful that I did. My son begs me to do his spelling every day, and I put it as a reward at the end of his lesson time!
The Sequential Spelling DVD is very easy to use. It can run on a PC or Mac. Simply install it, and you’re ready to go. Our son turns it on by himself every day. Click on the day of the lesson that you are in, and then a voice comes up that starts reading the word to you. They also include the word in a sentence to help you understand the context. Then you push the space bar on the keyboard to pause it (or use your mouse) and write your word down. Push the space bar again and the word appears and you check to see if you spelled it correctly.
It’s as easy as that. 🙂
This has been a huge aid in getting spelling done. I have my other son who struggles more with spelling using this right now also, and so far he’s doing ok.
Sequential spelling does not come in a grade level. I was told by other homeschooling moms to not start level 1 until my child was in 2nd or 3rd grade. So don’t rush out and buy this for your first grader just because it says level 1 on it!
If you use Sequential Spelling but struggle getting it done everyday like I did, I don’t think you will regret getting the DVD that goes along with it!
