Why We Don’t Ever Skip Morning Chores (Plus Free Mrs. Meyers Products!)

Do you ever have those mornings where you wake up late and everyone is frazzled? Lately we have had a lot of those mornings. We have been watching baseball late into the evenings, and when the children go to bed late I have mercy on them and let them sleep in. We live in Kansas City, so baseball is a big deal around here right now. 🙂

Getting started on school is important to me, however I’ve found that we can’t focus on school in a messy house. Especially when it is a smaller house. So we always do our morning chores, even if it puts us late in starting school (you can see our morning chore routine here).

I’ll share with you what our morning routine can look like when we get up late. 

I am often supervising chores, getting little ones dressed, getting dressed myself, checking email or doing some business work in the mornings. Our oldest son does dishes (we always have dishes left over from the night before. It is what it is. Someday I hope to change that!). His chore takes the longest.

While he is doing dishes, the younger two children (ages 10 and 7) alternate days of cleaning the one bathroom we have, and sweeping the dining room/tidying it up. I know those two will get done faster, so after our 10 year old is through with his chore I often send him downstairs to get his math done on the computer (we use Teaching Textbooks). The 7 year old does her handwriting or math if she has time.

Once the kitchen is clean, we have breakfast together, and then we have morning devotions. We often will do our other read aloud books right after our morning devotion, since we are all together.

One other thing that is consistent about our morning chore time is the natural cleaners we use! Mrs. Meyer’s is a favorite in our house.
