Clean Sweep: Dusting Away the cobwebs from our spiritual and temporal lives

April brings sunshine and warmer days and the desire to clean house and freshen things up. The long winter days are winding up and we are ready for some changes. I don’t know about you, but I’m not only ready to do some dusting and cleaning in my temporal home, but also my spiritual home. The winter months can bring on despondency and complacency in our spiritual lives. It was a long winter for me. We sold our house and moved, my husband has been swamped with being in college full time, and I’m staying very busy homeschooling and running online businesses. I want to carve out some time in April to not only do some cleaning and organizing on my house, but also dust some cobwebs out of my spiritual life.

I want to invite you to come along with me on this journey. Some things on my temporal to do list are:

1. Organize the children’s closets/swap spring and winter clothes

2. Organize master closet.

3. Purge toys/organize toys.

4. Clean kitchen cabinets and organize better.

5. Organize hall closet/purge/clean.

6. Organize linen closet/purge/clean.

7. Organize Bookshelves.

8. Set up a better laundry system.

9. Create a good working schedule for our days.

10. Create a chore chart system.

Each day I’m going to post one challenge, something to work on during the day. My goal is to post an update at the end of the day. Every Friday there will be a link up where you can share your blog and your own progress!

Some things on my spiritual to do list are:

1. Discipline for my days.
2. Patience with my children and husband.
3. Humility- remembering that I am nothing and my Lord is everything.
4. Long Suffering towards those around me.

This series will not be written from someone who has mastered these areas. It will be written by a sinner who has many flaws. I have many areas of weakness when it comes to being a good homemaker – organizing does not come easy for me. I stare at piles of stuff in dazed confusion wondering what on earth I’m going to do with it! I know that our days would go smoother if I could develop greater discipline.

Here are the challenges for Tuesday!

Temporal Challenge

Create a morning routine for your days. Unless you love scheduling according to time, just list things you need to do in step by step order. I’ll share the routine I have started tomorrow. This will be a key part of the month – we are going to conquer our mornings and develop routine and discipline!

Spiritual Challenge

Spend today praying and meditating about what weaknesses you have in your own life. If you have time, write down a few things you want to work on. If you can’t think of anything, ask your husband or close family member!

I’d love to have you post this button on your blog, and invite others to join our challenge!

14 Comments on Clean Sweep – New Blog Series and Challenge For April!

  1. I love this! What a great idea! 🙂 I’ve worked many times to become organized and I just need to get back on the wagon. And yes, my spiritual life could no doubt use a pick-me-up as well.

  2. I think I must stare at that exact same pile of stuff. I just don’t know what to do with it 😉 I’m days (or maybe a week or two) from having baby #5 so I hope I’m up for the challenge. I’d love to hop on board because I think I struggle with all of this stuff.

  3. What a great idea! I love this idea of doing spring cleaning as both a physical and spiritual discipline. And while I don’t have children, my home definitely needs a good clean sweep. Thanks for your post.

  4. Sounds great! I need to do this also!
I don’t know how to put a badge on my blog–I obviously do not do this professionally!
    Please help!

  5. I think that this is a great idea. I am really good with organizing and cleaning but my spiritual challenge, it is what I will work hardest at. thanks for the encouragement!!

  6. Love this! I was more organized when I needed to be–before the nest emptied. I miss the peace that comes from a bit more discipline, though, so will be joining in as much as applies. Thanks for the accountability! Love your blog. 🙂

  7. I’ll join you! I just shared on FB. We fallen in a pretty good routine on home school mornings but I’d like to work on something for our summer months off.

  8. I just joined, a little late but better late than never! I am SUPER pregnant and I was happy to find a challenge that can benefit me too! Awesome idea and totally do-able. Thanks!
