I promised yesterday that I would share how to do this hair style. Several of you asked for an actual video so that is what I did. If you already know how to french braid you can skip the first part and just watch the end for how I fixed the back part.

I received my inspiration for this hair style from this tutorial:

I knew with having layers in my hair that I couldn’t create that exact look, plus I wanted to use my flexi clip! So I added the french braids on the sides and twisted it in the back differently.

This should turn out slightly different on everyone depending on how thick your hair is, or if it is curly or straight. I always have a little bit of stray ends that want to fly away but that is from the layers in my hair. I’m trying to relax about hairstyles and realize that not every hair has to be perfectly in place for it to look ok!

The flexi clip I used in the video and picture is called Silver Deep-Set Rose.

Let me know if you try this! I’d love to hear if it turned out for you!

  1. As soon as my 5mo. old lays down, I’m going to go practice! I also appreciate you showing how you french braid your own hair. I can do my daughter’s, but not my own. Thank you very much!

  2. I am totally new to your site, but I know I will be a regular! I appreciate this tutorial so much, but I am TERRIBLE at doing my own (increasingly long)hair. I would love to see more of these!

  3. My hair is too short. 🙁 I tried and it looks awful. It’s layered also. Guess I’ll have to let it grow some more. Great tutorial though.

  4. I did it today. Well, actually my 16 year old daughter braided mine for me because I can’t seem to do my own. I need to practice because it feels backwards to me. Anyway it looks great! I love my long hair up but so sick of a boring ponytail and I want my hair to look like I gave a little effort at least!

  5. I love this! I am going to have to try this soon! You are very brave to do your hair in a video like that. I kept thinking, “How on earth is she able to concentrate on her hair and talk at the same time!” HA! I would totally be stumbling over my words. Great Job!
