A tutorial for a side braid? I’m pretty sure we all know how to pull our hair over to the side and braid it. I’ve actually been doing that a lot lately since I have a little baby who loves to pull on my hair! However, I’ve been playing around with ways to make a side braid look a little nicer and I wanted to share with you all.

How about a side braid with a twist? Literally!

First you want to start with clean hair. That always makes things better. 😉 I’ve been using the Suave Professionals® Sea Mineral Infusion Moisturizing Buoyant Body Shampoo and Conditioner. I washed my hair the day I did this hairstyle, but using two day old washed hair works great as well. 🙂 A little bit of oil in your hair helps hold hairstyles.

Next you need to brush your hair really good (no tangles!) and get a headband and a way to secure your braid. I’m using a Lilla Rose headband and Flexi clip to secure it. I also parted my hair to the side.

Don’t pull your hair under it in the back!

Start twisting your hair around the headband in the back!

You’re going to start taking sections of hair and twisting it around the back of the headband.

Twist your hair around the headband

Pull each section around the headband and then under it. If you have long hair like I do there might be some tangles as you do this. 🙂 Just go slow and you will get it!

Twist your hair to the side

Twist your hair all the way to the side and stop. Switch sides that you are twisting and twist the other side until you cover the headband.

Now you are ready to braid the side!

Continue braiding until you reach the length you want, and secure with your choice of flexi clip or elastic.

That’s it! An easy, everyday hairstyle that looks pretty! With the heat of summer coming on I’m trying to get my hair up and off my neck, so this works perfect.
