My Word Of The Year For 2021

Some years I love to pick a word out and focus on that. Other years it just doesn’t come to me and I start the new year out without a word. I don’t stress about it and I certainly wasn’t stressing about it this year (of all years to not stress about simple things, it’s this year!).

However I was laying in bed, awake yet again with 9 month pregnancy insomnia and the word hit me.

I know exactly what word I’m supposed to use for 2021, because it’s what the Lord has been laying on my heart to work on.

Love.

More specifically though, the word love in connection to my husband and children, and the verse found in Titus where it says:

“That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children.”

There is a reason why the older women were told to teach that to the younger women.

It’s because choosing love doesn’t always come easily.

For me, I have a few children who have a high need for physical touch. They need lots of hugs, pats on the back, they want to touch me all the time, and even though I’m not anti-physical touch by any means, I get worn out with it.

One child knows in particular how hard this can be. They have started asking if they can give me a hug before they do it. Ouch! I keep thinking about this verse, and how it applies to this situation. If I want to show love to this child, who obviously has a great need for physical touch as their love language, I will extend to them the love they need.

2020 has taught us all many lessons, and I think one of the big lessons that has come out of this year is the importance of having our family in order, and being in love with our family in order to survive the catastrophe type moments that can and will arise.

Even though we normally are at home all the time, this year we were together much more. Between the virus and living in an RV for several months, we definitely experienced more family time than normal.

I’d like to say it was the most wonderful thing ever, but in reality we all had tense moments, and there were times when Sean and I thought we were losing our minds. I feel like the year we had showed me the need to focus on what might seem so basic.

Love.

True Christ-like love that endures long, bears much, and is patient.

This is the love that I want to give to my husband and children.

This is the love that doesn’t live on sappy emotions, fleeting moments of happiness, and everyone having their perfectly decorated private living spaces.

Instead, the best kind of love keeps giving even when the storm clouds are out, and you don’t have any idea of when the sun and roses will be in bloom. This is the kind of love that older women are supposed to teach the younger women.

Unconditional love.

  1. Yes! I wasn’t going to do a word this year but I did. 2019 was Peserverance, 2020 was Renewal (and boy was it!!), 2021 is Restoration. 💖💖

  2. I loved reading about your word for 2021. I’m going to have a heart to heart with Jesus & ask him to help me figure out mine for this year. I’ve struggled with a few things this year that I already have in mind. Ironically, my word for 2020 was peace & while the world doesn’t reflect that word, I feel like I have done a decent job keeping a nice balance of peace in our home this year. Thanks so much for sharing, I miss your Instagram stories, but chose to unplug from instagram because it was causing me a lot of stress. So glad I’m signed up for your emails 😊
