5 Tips Of Wisdom From Homeschooling Mothers

A few months ago I attended a women’s day of encouragement, put on by our local homeschool group. It was an amazing day of inspiration, being renewed, and fellowshipping with other homeschooling moms.

You might be experiencing some exhaustion or burn out right now, so I thought I would share with you what stood out to me from the day. They had a panel of 4 homeschooling mothers answer questions, and all of these mothers had been homeschooling for quite awhile now.

Here are some good reminders from these mothers…

Homeschooling is not about grades and curriculum. It’s about first building relationships with our children. As a second generation homeschooler I totally agree with this! I had a relationship with my mom that went far beyond the grades and curriculum we used. I knew she loved me, no matter how poor I did in school, I just needed to try my best!

Do you remember what you learned in first grade? I don’t either! Don’t stress over the little years, you repeat so many things in school over and over again, until they eventually get it!

There will be gaps in the education you can give them. Just like there are gaps in the educations found in public and private schools, there are gaps found in homeschooling. But guess who can fill those gaps…yes, Jesus can and will! Do the very best you can, and He will come alongside and help with the rest!

Schedules are important. This stood out to me the most…all of the mothers who had large families there said it was important to have a schedule, but to treat it more like a routine. Do one thing, and then move on to the next. Don’t stress over times on the schedule, but they said it is chaotic if you do not have a schedule in place. This was a good reminder to me that I need to keep working through the Simplified Organization Course!

Homeschooling with toddlers – If you are trying to homeschool with toddlers, they said putting time on the schedule for a child to be with that toddler each day really helped. One mom said she trained her little ones for blanket time and that helped her. I have yet to do blanket training, but it was a good reminder that it can work.
