How to Avoid Inner Thigh Chafing In A Skirt!
A common complaint I hear when talking about wearing skirts is how to avoid your inner thigh chafing. When your legs are not as thin as a barbie doll, they can rub together and feel sticky, and even get irritated. I haven’t personally dealt with this issue very much, but I’ve read of lots of women who have and what they do. I also remember my mom dealing with this and some things she did to prevent it.
There are several different ways you can avoid this problem!
1. Wear cotton pettipants! I have heard so many good things about these cotton pettipants that are on Amazon (for a really good price!). If I had this problem I would try this first. They look comfortable and have excellent reviews. Available in sizes Small-XXLarge, in white, black and cream.
2. Wear spandex or bike shorts under your skirts. This not only helps to prevent the chafing, but also is a little slenderizing! You can find a huge selection of bike shorts here. Jockey makes underwear that is a long length, and would also work great!
3. This might sound strange to some, but I’ve heard so much good feedback about this solution! Rub some deodorant on your inner thighs before you get dressed for the day. That will prevent the rubbing. I prefer a deodorant without aluminum. Right now I use Arm & Hammer natural deodorant because I can get it at Walmart for a good price. Another favorite of mine is Truly’s natural deodorant. It works really good, but you would have to use your fingers since it is not a rub on.
4. During the winter months wear leggings! That way you stay warm and it prevents the chafing! My favorite leggings are the fleece lined leggings that I wear all winter long.
5. This looks like it would work really well! An Anti-Chafing skin protectant stick. It does not contain any petroleum, mineral, vegetable oils, lanolin, water or alcohol.
Those are the ideas I have to prevent thigh rub, I’d love to hear what you do!

Great tips, I had this problem when I was pregnant.
I wear bike shorts under my skirts in the summer. I am still cooler than when I wore jeans or capris in summer. In the winter I wear long leggings. Pair them with knee high boots and I am warmer in the winter than when I just wore jeans or slacks.
This is exactly what I do — and it works great!
I found a lot of my chaffing was moisture from that area. A pantiliner solved that problem and my skin no longer gets irritated.
Please be careful using this tip. For women that are prone to uti’s, frequently wearing pantiliners can irritate sensitive skin. This can lead to more infections and even uti pain and symptoms without an infection.
I wear pettipants every day year round! I get the nylon ones from jcpenney. They are cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Baby powder!
Please do some research, they have found that baby powder is a cause for cancer in the cervics and uterus. I believe it is the talc powder. We scented arrowroot and cornstarch with essential oils.
I have purchased the Burts Bee Baby Powder before and like that!
I also love nylon pettipants. I got mine from Ebay years ago and they are still holding up well. They even help serve as a slip when that is needed. My daughter wears bike shorts under her skirts. I like that they add a modest factor, just in case.
I know that I am older (64), but does no one wear nylons anymore? I have never had this problem with hose, but often wear pettipants in warm weather when I don’t want to wear nylons.
I’m 39, and it’s a requirement at my job. And for church as well for anyone on the worship team or up front. I wear them year long and I’m used to them. My legs feel naked without them.
I don’t think many people wear nylons at home everyday any longer. At least I never have. 🙂

I think it depends on your circle. Where I am, it seems as if most (not all) ladies have switched to “no show” footies with dress shoes instead of hose. I personally love them, as I don’t care for hose. Along with being hot, I can never find a nude color that was light enough to look natural. Maybe it’s just me, but having my legs be 3 shades tanner than my arms just seemed tacky! lol
But I understand that if you’ve worn them daily for years, that you would be used to them. Can someone explain why hose would be a requirement, though? They used to be a requirement at my church for singers/musicians on the platform, as well, but I never heard a reason.
Oh, and tights are common these days in the winter, so go figure. You never know with fashion. I say, wear what you like (and is modest and appropriate, of course)!
Hose is more dressy. No hose is considered casual. And they want the legs covered by something, not “naked”. Speakers and the worship team should have knee length or longer skirts and dresses.

Hmm, thanks for the reply. I guess I never thought about them being dressier. I totally agree about bare legs, though. I play the piano at church, and especially because I sit on the platform angled toward the audience, I am very strict with myself in wearing skirts at least lower calf length. I don’t want to risk showing what shouldn’t be seen! : )

I have never had this problem, but I love the idea of the bike shorts for the slenderizing effect!
I use either spandex or rub Ava Anderson diaper cream on my thighs!
I bought the nylon version of petti pants at Kohl’s a couple of years ago and they have revolutionized my life! It’s so hot here most of the time, and I needed a switch from spandex shorts. These are so comfy, like your just wearing a slip!
I just slather a little good ole coconut oil on my legs in the morning. It holds up all day long!

I swear by Gold Bond powder. It doesn’t wear off and absorbs moisture as well as provides protection for the skin that rubs.
In the summer I wear a split slip. I also cut the legs off a pair of nylons (pantyhose) once when I was on a trip and doing a lot of walking.
I started wearing shorts/capris or leggings under my skirts when I first started teaching and working with children. There was an unfortunate windy day incident with my bossy that made me realize the necessity of this. Now that I’m heavier I do the same thing. Can’t wait to try the pettipants
I often use Gold Bond powder if I’m having an issue, but I normally have on some sort of short/petti-pant under my skirts and that helps a lot 🙂
I use coconut oil. I little goes a long way & seems to last all day. On super hot days I may have to re-apply but not on most days.
I have recently purchased Bandelettes. Lace or plain ‘thigh gusrds’. They are amazing! It’s too hot to wear bike shorts here in summer, these have proved a godsend.
