Educating the Wholehearted Child ( Giveaway )
I was delighted when I pulled out my old, worn out copy of Educating the Whole Hearted Child that I inherited when my mom died, and realized that the school lesson plans she used almost my whole life were found in the back of this book. Then I started flipping through the pages of this book and discovered that many of the pages were covered in yellow highlighter maker. That’s when I knew that I had another homeschool treasure in my hands.
Educating the Whole Hearted Child is a book that will encourage the homeschooling mother’s soul, and provide valuable, incredibly practical instruction for the daily homeschooling routine. Books that provide vision are wonderful, but books that provide vision AND instruction on how to carry out that vision are even better.
Clay and Sally Clarkson are the authors of this book, and they are the parents of four homeschool graduates. I like that the revised edition of this book has been written now that they are finished homeschooling. I appreciate the wisdom that I receive from other mothers who are “in the trenches” so to speak, but I highly value instruction from parents who have ran the whole race and finished successfully.
When I saw Whole Heart Online had come out with a new edition of this book, I was curious to get my hands on it and read through the new copy. I wasn’t disappointed. It’s full of stories from their home, recommended reading lists for your home, an expanded selection of lists and forms for record keeping, resources, and of course, many chapters covering various homeschool topics. With 384 pages you’re sure to find something to encourage your mother heart.
I always plan on keeping this book around to use for reference and encouragement. Actually both editions will always have a place on my bookshelf – the treasured older copy full of memories of my mother and childhood, and the new edition for me to learn, grow, and to come into my own as a homeschooling mother.
Just a little disclaimer – oftentimes when I endorse something people take it to mean that I approve of 100% of everything found in it. While I agree with almost everything in this book, of course there are a few things that don’t line up with how our family believes.

Seasons of a Mother’s Heart is the book that jumps out at me. I’m new to homeschooling. I have a son that graduated from public school almost 1 year ago, and 2 daughters I started homeschooling this year – ages 10 and 12. I’ve always loved being a stay-home mom, but never knew how to do it well. I’m learning how to do it better and striving to become the best teacher to my daughters as well.

I am excited about all of the books actually, so hard to pick just one when they are all on my wish list. The Ministry of Motherhood and The Mission of Motherhood along with Educating the Wholehearted Child have been on my wishlist the longest.
Several of these books have been on my wish list for a long time. I would love to read Educating the WholeHearted Child. I have also been wanting to read Read for the Heart as well as The Ministry of Motherhood and The Mission of Motherhood.

I have the 1996 version of this book – fabulous! I’ve read it through at least 3 times, plus referenced it many, many times.
This new versions sounds wonderful as well, and one that I’ll pass on to my daughters as they begin homeschooling their children.

I would choose Read for Heart. I would love to read whole (or living) books to our children but am unsure where to start. My husband and I are first generation Christians and home educators so we just don’t know which books are good (especially non-fiction books which haven’t been revised).
