“Ready for Real Life” Webinar by the Botkin Family! {Giveaway}
I was excited when I heard the Botkin Family was coming out with a new webinar. The last webinar I listened to by this family was very encouraging to me, especially since the topic was focused on what I blog a lot about – femininity and modesty.
I’ll admit, when I first head that another webinar was coming out on the topic of the family I wondered if it would be just a repeat of things I’ve already heard. But when I saw the list of topics I was very impressed and my curiosity was peaked. I’m looking forward to listening in on this webinar. We have precious few parents who have successfully raised grown children to mature adulthood. What an encouragement it is to see a whole family still striving together.
Since my husband is in college for graphic design, I’m especially interested in the third class, entitled “Ready to Lead Culture: How to Take Dominion of the Arts Without the Arts Taking Dominion of You – Studying Music, Art, Photography, Graphic Design, Fashion, and Filmmaking.” I don’t know about you, but I think that those are some excellent topics to consider! The world needs more godly men and women that are willing to be bold and brave in the world of music and art. It can be a lonely position, but if Christians are not willing to produce art and music that glorifies God, the other side has won.
Since this class is online every Tuesday night for seven weeks it makes it easy to listen as a family. Plus, if you can’t listen to it that night they normally always email you a recording the next day!
Here is a description of the class and the topics.
WHAT SHOULD A 21ST CENTURY EDUCATION LOOK LIKE?
We homeschooling parents know we’re giving our children a decent academic education. But let’s face it – we sometimes wonder if we really know how to equip them to be the adults the 21st Century needs. After all, the world our children are inheriting will be more complex, uncertain, and turbulent than the one we had to face.
The “Ready for Real Life” webinar, hosted by the entire Botkin family, will take on the practical side of educating children for the real world, also tackling every-day issues like saving money on curriculum, teaching your children to take responsibility for their own education, dealing with different learning styles, teaching social skills and confidence, helping children who don’t like to read or write, creating an educational home environment, and helping children learn marketable skills.
Hear from each member of the Botkin family, as they talk about lessons they’ve learned along the way, books and resources they recommend, things that worked for them, and things they’ll never do again.

I guess I would ask the family about alternate methods of learning/obtaining the skills needed for “career” with out going the college route.
I would ask them something along the lines of “What should you do if you find now that your children are older that you didn’t prepare them well enough and it feels like it’s too late?”

What I would ask the Botkin Family is: there is so much to learn in such a small amount of time (while your children are still in your home) how can you space it out in managable chunks so that they can learn without feeling overwhelmed by all they have to learn? I know I sometimes feel overwhelmed with what I didn’t learn the first go around and am trying to learn or sometimes re-learn while teaching them what they need.

I would ask the family what they do to make sure that there children do not crash and burn after they leave the home – spiritually (by abandoning the faith), character-wise (similar to the first), or by otherwise dropping the ball. How do they truly create intergenerational faithfulness without huge gaps?
I would ask what are the main things my chil needs to know to help him step into the real world after graduation
I get how much time it takes to train up a child. What I am not getting is….I’m not sure-I know I am missing something. I am not a great communicator and that is one thing that I have learned I need to work on and I am constantly trying. I am not much of a talker, is there any other way to help my children to take dominion without having lots of conversation during the day? Maybe that’s my issue and I just need to start becoming a communicator for my children’s sake.
I’m new to the homeschooling world and this would be a blessing as also I’m now dressing more modestly.

Just saw that you are supposed to enter a question. 🙂 I would be interested in hearing their thoughts on what skills they think will be the most important in this changing world! What should both boys and girls be preparing for?

Do they have anyone who could come help me? No- just kidding! I would like to ask about differences between boys and girls as they get older as they homeschool.
What is the best thing you did for your kids?
I would probably ask them if any of them are in secular colleges and what their thoughts are on that, as well as if any of them are serving in the military, since I saw they have “military studies” listed there, and what their thoughts are on military service as well.
I would ask how to encourage dads to be more involved and daughters more willing to fall under their protection.
I would ask: If we asked your children “what was the one thing your parents did to prepare you for real life?” what would their answer be?
What to do when you are trying to raise your children biblically and it seems that none of the other families around are doing the same and the whole family just feels “alone”? What would be a good way to get encouragement at those times?
I’d love to ask about child training even though that’s not what this webinar is about.
I would like to ask them how to transition a teenage boy from being under his mother’s instruction full time, to being under his father’s instruction full time. What does that look like as we are still trying to cover the basics of education, but prepare him to lead in his own business.
I would ask them what their advice is for guiding young men who may be interested in the military or police work.
I would ask why study medicine science specifically.
How to make life learning into a useable transcript 😉
I would ask about using a traditional school schedule vs other. Such as, I have read about not teaching children to read until they are 7, which would never fly in a public school.
I would ask, “how do you inspire/ignite a passion for excelling,for not settling for mediocre, for trying new things?”
A question for the Botkins? I would like to know what read-alouds they have done/are doing with their family.
I’d like to ask what the top 10 books they would recommend for young adults to read.
