6 Fun Random Facts About Clothing!

We all have certain likes and dislikes about clothes, makeup, and accessories. I thought it would be fun to list some of mine below, and then you all could leave your list in the comments.

1. I used to dislike chevron skirts. Dislike is actually a mild word for what I thought about them. But now…I would wear and actually like the long chevron maxi skirts. Who would have thought?

2. If you come to my house during the week, chances are you will find me in a Rainbow or Guinevere jean skirt. I wear those two skirts 3-4 times a week. I know it’s boring to some, but it worked for me over the summer. Now that it is getting chilly, I’ll pull out a few warm skirts and maybe change things around a bit. 🙂

3. I love, love, love winter clothes! I have nicer clothing for winter because I can more easily find things that are modest. Summer tops that are modest are harder to find. So I’m excited that I can pull out my warmer clothes.

4. My husband loves me to wear dangly earrings, and even bought me a pair for Christmas last year. So sweet. I’m not into really colorful jewelry, or really big, but I love some smaller dangles.

5. I go back and forth on cutting bangs again, and cutting my layers off my hair all the time. I actually am getting my hair cut this afternoon, so I need to decide soon!

6. I love to wear boots with my skirts when it is cold. I just ordered a pair from Zulily today that I can’t wait to get in the mail!

I would love to hear some of your fun random facts about clothing or accessories you like or dislike!

  1. I am just starting to transition into wearing skirts primarily, so I appreciate your posts on this! We are in Minnsota, so I am nervous about how to stay warm in the winter!?!?

    1. Leggings are great for staying warm in winter! I wear them under my skirts all
winter and am very warm and cozy. I’m actually warmer then when I wear pants! I wear cotton leggings but I hear that “shape wear” leggings glide under your clothes better. 🙂

    2. I have found that I am actually warmer in a skirt (longer length), than in pants. The air between the skirt and your legs creates an ‘insulating’ layer. If I am going to be outside, I will wear long underwear or cotton/wool tights, and tall boots. This helps as well. I love dressing in the fall/winter as well! The colors, the coziness…it’s lovely!

    3. I live in CO and unless the snow actually touches my legs, I’m warmer in my skirts (and I rarely do tights or leggings) than with jeans. I don’t know how this works, but it does. In the winter I wear denim skirts, corduroy and bottom weight fabrics. They’re all mid-calf or ankle length. I do wear boots most of the time when I go outside. They’re fashionable and keep my calves warm too.

  2. I agree I LOVE my winter clothes and am so glad that the weather is cooling off! I go back and forth with bangs too, so the last time I had my hair cut I had her do longer bangs, so if I want I can brush them back and spray some hair spray and they can blend in with the rest of my hair.

  3. Likes: I love long full skirts, especially prairie/broomstick/hippie style skirts. There’s just something fun and girly about a long full skirt. Plus since my daughter was born and become mobile, while I don’t think shorter (kneeish not mini) skirts are inherently immodest, I have found that longer skirts are just more practical for getting down in the floor with a toddler. I also love boots with skirts, especially tall boots. Unfortunately, I have big calves so it’s hard to find wide calf boots that I can both try on and are in my price range. I have a pair I love (and I got to pull out and wear last Sunday to church) from Old Navy, but the quality is what you’d expect from them and I think I’m probably going to only get another winter out of them. I’m addicted to brightly colored stretchy tanks. They’re great for layering under shirts of all sorts, under neutrals they add a fun pop of color, and even though I wore them before becoming a mom I’ve found them to be much more practical than nursing tanks for nursing since they can just be pulled down so no clasps or built in bras to mess with. Finally I really like peasant blouses. My husband says it’s because at heart I’m a hippie, but I just like them because I think they’re both pretty and flattering on me.
Dislikes: Animal prints bug me. I know they’re stylish right now, but I just can’t stand them.
Dislikes: My daughter had a couple of jumpers and a legging set that had animal prints on them that I just dropped off at our local consignment sale for that almost that reason alone. I don’t really like Camo unless it’s part of a military uniform. And lastly I generally don’t like tennis shoes with skirts. I don’t mind them with an athletic skirt or on little girls, but there’s just something about the look that I just don’t like. I understand the practicality of it, especially for women who are 100% skirts only, but even though I’ve mostly given up pants I just can’t bring myself to put my tennis shoes on with a long denim skirt.
This is an interesting post, and I’m looking forward to seeing what others opinions are.

    1. The second dislike shouldn’t be there. My daughter, aka tech support, was helping me type and when I moved text back to the right spot I ended up with an extra dislike in the middle that I missed before posting.

    2. I agree with the tennis shoes and skirt thing! Ha My husband doesn’t get it, but I have to buy “mary jane” style athletic type shoes instead. They do have them, in the lighter weight athletic shoes, which is what I prefer anyway. 😉

I am also with you on the animal prints. Haha

      1. I am with you on the tennis shoes! Thank you for the idea on the athletic mary janes I think I will do that for sporty days!

      2. I am so glad I’m not the only one. I had just started moving to skirts only when I got pregnant, and ended up adding a lot more pants into my wardrobe because I had trouble finding maternity skirts that came in my size. Last winter I was fine with slip on flats for every day, but our daughter can run now, lol. I’ve lived in a pair of Sketchers sandals this summer that I can chase her in if necessary, but they’re not going to cut it as it cools off. I’ve been looking for a pair of Mary Jane style tennis shoes, and my husband doesn’t get it either. He thinks I have tennis shoes and thus don’t need another pair. Though he also thinks he only owns 4 pairs of shoes, and that should be plenty for me. And since I have no need of combat boots, really 3 pairs would do.

  4. I really like that chevron maxi too. Today is our first day of chilly weather here in MO (but, you knew that right? ;D) and I am struck by how few long, warm skirts I have (one denim – 2nd hand – that is too big without a cinched belt and two church worthy a heavy gray wool and a brown plaid). I can’t afford to buy any new clothing for myself right now but I would really like to get a long skirt from your shop when I can afford to shop again, LOL. I am going to make due for now with what items I do have and making good use of my heavy “sweater” tights and leggings. 😀

  5. I too am just now getting in to wearing skirts. But one of my best new likes is Cami secrets. As I went to more modest dressing there wasn’t always options for layering certain blouses and I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on new clothes so I bought a pack of the blue/brown/white Cami secrets and they are great. I could probably get another pack with the other colors but this assortment does me well.

  6. Sure wish there were skirts like those, but with POCKETS!! I can’t wear a skirt without pockets. Where do I put my phone, hanky, chapstick, or whatever I need to have on hand when I’m not “out and about” with my purse??

  7. My Likes:

1.Light weight rayon and/or cotton skirts, but I also like knit, corduroy, and jean skirts.

    2. High necked tee-shirts in solid colors, which I think are the most versatile.

    3. Turtlenecks and warm sweaters.

    4. Riding boots in winter and flats in the summer.

    5. Pearls, and small pendant necklaces.

    6. Small studded and short dangle earrings.

I tend dress the same way I dressed in the late 80’s and early 90’s in what I think is more of a “classic” look.

  8. I have also recently begun wearing mainly skirts! Love just the plain denim ones for around the house. I am also pregnant and have found a maternity skirt pattern. I am going to make some comfy maternity skirts in different fabric to brighten my wardrobe.Love full panel maternity skirts and dislike the ones that sit under your tummy. Also love mary janes with my skirts and dresses. Also love the layering shell I purchased from here. Am able to feel comfortable wearing maternity tops that otherwise would have been to low cut.

  9. I bought a Chevron style maxi skirt from Maurice’s last summer and I love it! It’s so light and comfortable!
I wear my black denim rainbow skirt to work at least once a week and usually get several compliments on it 🙂
I love wearing scarves, with a flexi clip on them.
I adore wearing dangly earrings, and my husband loves them on me!
I too went back and forth on bangs and finally cut some on one side last month. I am so split on what I prefer. I think I look better with some bangs to frame my very high forehead, but hair in my face bugs me. Also, it takes a bit longer to get ready in the morning when I have bangs to style. I don’t know if that helps you with your decision at all, but I wanted you to know that I sympathize!

  10. Ok ladies, ready for mine? I’m a bit different but could use some tips!
I live in Southern California (Booooooo) and because of this I was raised with what’s “in” versus what is “right”. I grew up in the beauty and fashion industry by hobby and interest. I ditched all that when I surrendered my life to Jesus 🙂
Problem is, I can’t seem to be content in plain clothes. Don’t meet me wrong, I do not assume I need to be boring, I have a collection of scarves and colors, but what I mean is I like fashion. I look and dress COMPlETELY different from the person I was before. I have made certain changes for example: make-up, hair color, and hair style….but I do like fashion. So if I wear a skirt, I normally have a more modern shirt on, usually with a halftee underneath because let’s face it, most shirts need them! And I will also tease my hair to give it volume and go with my more modern look. If I wear pants, I wear longer shirts to cover and flow away from my behind, like a tunic top or something. Like most of you, fall and winter is my favorite for the same reasons. So hair accessories are really fun to dress my skirt outfit to more my style. I have a drawer full of crochet style headbands.

My question is where to find boots that wear well with skirts? And what style? I love boots and mine are all very trendy looking with the knee height and buckles. They look great with pants and sweater tunics, but not so much with a skirt 🙂

    1. I’d like to add to my first comment. The denim skirts that Caroline sells, and wears, look great with boots, flat or heeled.

  11. Please post a photo of your new ‘do’. I would love to see your choice! I just purchased two pairs of boots one black and one brown from Wal-Mart. They are about mid calf and I love them! I look forward to them keeping my legs warm when my skirt can’t!

I find that the really flowy skirts I LOVE, but I tend to get “caught” in the doors or whatever I may be trying to shut quickly behind me. I am learning to double check before I close and walk away. I may end up skirtless some day in my speediness!

I love winter because I love the cozy warm sweaters we get to wear and I love accessories like scarfs to add to an otherwise boring shirt to spice it up a bit. Looks fashionable and keeps your neck a little warm depending on how tight or loose you choose to wear it!

I have just gotten back into my earrings. I love my dangly ones and have requested them for Christmas. My husband made a comment about how nice I looked one day…what was different? Dangling earrings. LOL the simplest things. Didn’t even have make up on that day in fact!

  12. I wholeheartedly agree with you on loving winter clothing. My winter clothing is much nicer looking than my summer stuff. I also love to wear boots with my skirts in the Fall and Winter, however they have to have a little bit of a heel on them for me to feel good about what the overall look. I’m short so heels help me walk a little taller. 😉

I have boots with and without heels, with and without buckles. I wear tights in the fall and winter. I wear them with jumpers, skirts and dresses. I think the key is…knowing how to dress them up or down to go casual. A jumper that is right above the knee looks good with both types…just add a turtleneck or button-down blouse, belt or chunky necklace, scarf, etc. As far as a skirt, I think they look great with both kinds of boots. A fuller, flowing, mid-calf skirt is very flattering with buckled, heeled boots. Because the skirt is longer, you don’t have to worry about how tall your boots are. You can still be fashionable and modest, at the same time. If in doubt, always go classic…it never goes out of style.

  14. Likes: I am not skirts-only but do try to be very modest in my clothing. Since having my three children, my chest size has gotten bigger with each child. That has made it very hard to find any shirts that cover everything effectively. I have decided to just buy a shirt if it’s cute, but too low, and put a sleeveless tank top underneath it. I have the Target brand ones (Merona I think?) in probably 20 colors (inc. basics). Very fun to throw a pop of color under something so it is modest and cute at the same time. That is the rack I shop once a season to grab any new cute colors they come out with! They even get down to $6 every now and then, so score!

It is pretty hot here in TX most of the year though so I have been trying to find some actual modest shirts I could wear without something underneath to keep from melting into a puddle!

I LOVE that turquoise and teal have been “hot” colors the last couple summers because those are my favorite colors! Trying to scoop up anything cute in those colors while I can before the next “hot” color comes along and those colors become harder to find again.

I also love dressing in fall/winter clothes! There are SO many more modest options. And even if a shirt was too low or short, by the time you throw a tank top underneath, a sweater on top, and a scarf, you’re pretty much good! It’s a lot easier to dress up a plain shirt that way. Verses summer where it’s too hot here for any sort of accessories.

I actually don’t buy many winter shirts. I do LOVE fall colors but I buy them in staples like tank tops/short sleeve shirts/skirts/dresses I can wear all year. I tend to just throw a warm jacket over my summer shirts. I’m sure that’s not a “fashionable” thing to do, but I find jean anything tends to make brighter colors not feel so summery.

Dislikes: Not a fan of the neon trend of late or animal prints either.

Didn’t like chevrons when they first started appearing on everything, but man that turquoise chevron skirt you sell might just win me over!

For some reason I just can’t do red. Love it on my boys with different skin/hair color combos then me. But I just can’t pull it off. Red just doesn’t flatter my Strawberry blond hair and super fair skin with freckles & pink undertones.
