Preparing For A New School Year!

Preparing For A New School Year!

I’m cleaning the house, making chore charts and schedules, and starting to organize all the curriculum. I’ll be sharing more on that next month.

Most of all, I’m praying and talking to my children about the new school year, and stressing the importance of good attitudes. 🙂 We are using Character Concepts for devotions in the mornings which is a great resource. I’ve learned that if my children have a bad attitudes about school, our days will go twice as long and everyone will end up in tears.

Finally, we are going to enjoy the rest of our summer days, which we only have a little over a week left before we start school again! A trip to the sprinkles, and a long promised tea party will be happening. I’m surprising my husband for a one night special trip for just the two us. He will start college August 21, and once he is back in college our time together is very limited. I can’t wait to get away with him!

What are you doing to get ready for a new school year? Have you made good summer memories?

  1. Currently….I’m planning on paper (with discussions with the kids too). I’ve ordered most of our books. I’m purging old school books, uncluttering other areas, and preparing for our next adoption placement. We haven’t set a start date for school yet because we are still waiting to hear if we’ll be able to home school our new kids right away or if we’ll have to wait until we finalize before we can. If we can home school them right away, I’d like us all start together. I believe that would be a good thing for them and easier on us.

  2. We spent the last 3 days organizing, moving stuff to a new space and PURGING (I thought I had finished that with our last move, but we have so much school stuff after 13 years!). We have our new storage “tower” set up (wire cubbies) by the table where “desk” school happens most and the new pretty, colored boxes and notebooks on the shelves. One more “book” to have printed (ordered today) and we are set to start Monday!

I have prayerfully planned this year and we are very excited to start back. My 10 year old daughter said this morning, “We really need to get back to our school routine, the house stays neater when we don’t have so much idle time.” Uhhh OK, wise one. 🙂

  3. I used Proverbs People from the same company for devotions with my son last year and we liked it 🙂 We’ve started back to school with Math and some creative writing and I would have to agree about the tears following bad attitudes – mine included!

  4. We’ve had a wonderful summer of memories, the greatest being the birth of baby number eight two weeks ago today! The whole family is in love with this sweet little man.

I have all our homeschool planning done for the new year. I’ll have grade 7, 3, 2, gifted K (keeps up with 2nd/3rd), a 4 year old, and THREE children UNDER age 3. 🙂 Busy times! The plan is to start back to school late August, though we may begin mid August adding 2 new things a week. We’ll see. I’ll be sharing my curriculum plans on my blog August 5th for the NOT Back to School Blog Hop.

  5. I have to pull out my copy of Managers Of Their Homes by Steven and Teri Maxwell and get crackin’ on making a school schedule, I still have curriculum to purchase and subjects to decide on. I’m schooling 5 for the first time. Kindergarten through Junior year. What through me for a loop was my oldest deciding she wants to go to a community college for photography after she graduates. Now we need to hit math and science a little harder so she will be able to do well on the ACT. (She is so not a math and science gal.)
