I love a good apple crisp. After making quite a few that tasted a little bland, I went on the hunt looking for an delicious apple crisp recipe that we would all enjoy. This is definitely the winner! The lemon zest is an important ingredient to add, as it brings out a lot of flavor.

8-9 large tart apples, peeled and sliced

1 teaspoon dried lemon zest

1 Tablespoon lemon juice

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 cup flour

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoons ground nutmeg

Crumb Topping Ingredients

 Crumb Topping Ingredients

1 1/2 cups flour

3/4 cup sugar

3/4 cup brown sugar, packed

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup oatmeal

2 sticks cold butter, diced

Preheat oven to 350. Slice the apples into thin slices. Put in a mixing bowl and add the lemon zest, lemon juice, 1/2 cup sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg. Use a large spoon and mix it all together. Pour into a 13×9 baking pan.

To make the crump topping, add all the dry ingredients together. Then slice the cold butter into tablespoon size chunks, and add to the dry ingredients. Use a food chopper to chop the butter into pea size bites. Or, put all the ingredients in a mixer and mix until you see pea size bites.

  1. Now I know what I’ll be doing with my Cortlands, Macs, and frozen vanilla yogurt. I thank you, and my husband thanks you even more.

  2. YUM!!! We always go apple picking Columbus Day weekend and then a few days later make apple pie from scratch. For some reason it just tastes better if you’ve picked the apples yourself. 🙂
