We are Buying An 1896 Farmhouse!

I’ve waited a long time to be able to give you an update on our living situation, and I’m thrilled to finally be able to tell you that we are buying a house!

It’s not any old house, it’s a farmhouse that is super cute, and will be so much fun to put the finishing touches on it!

I gave an update on my Instagram stories awhile back, but the basic update to our adventures with living in a travel trailer full time, is that we discovered it wouldn’t work for our family.

We are super involved in church, music lessons, and have friends and family locally that made traveling a lot harder than we thought. We absolutely loved our time traveling, and we don’t regret those memories one bit. If we could travel full time, it would have changed things a lot. Living stationary in a travel trailer is somehow a lot harder than traveling around and seeing all sorts of new things.

December is also going to be here before we know it, and we realized it just wasn’t going to work to bring baby #8 to the trailer. If we were going to do that, we would need a 5th wheel to fit everyone.

So…we decided to call it quits a little earlier than we had planned, and find a house to buy.

That was much easier to decide than it was to find a house! We looked and looked, and about gave up hope of finding anything we liked, let alone on any sort of property.

Finally, we gave ourselves the deadline of Monday, October 19th to find a house to buy, otherwise we were going to need to rent a house. We just sold the travel trailer and a family is coming next week to get it, and we really need to get settled somewhere before the baby comes! We discovered this house over the weekend, and finally came to an agreement with the buyer on Monday, our very last day we could buy a house!

The house is smaller than what we ideally wanted (almost 1500 square feet), but Sean and I both recently realized that we would love to buy an older farmhouse to live in. Farmhouses have so much character, and this one has already been updated with newer plumbing, electricity, the foundation has been fixed and is solid, and it’s currently being updated inside.

It’s a 3 bedroom, 2 bath, and will look so adorable when we are done! I plan on painting it all white inside, with black accents for the lights and faucets. Pops of color will come through rugs, pillows, and decor.

I can’t wait to decorate the front porch and spend time out there! It’s super adorable!

It has the side porch, and this is the front of the house that faces the road. It sits on almost 2 acres, but it’s surrounded by 80 acres of pasture so it feels like more! It definitely has a country feel, which we were so praying for!

But wait, it gets even better!

It has a separate, detached shop and house! This is how we feel we can make the smaller house work, because we have so many options with having this separate area! We threw around the idea of renting out the house part as an AirBNB option, but I really think we need it for work and extra living space.

The shop is super nice, heated with a dust collection system already in place. Sean used to own a cabinet shop and kept most of his equipment, so it’s going to get all set up here! It was a dream to own a place where he could have his own shop again, but that’s all it ever was, a dream!

Attached to the shop is a 600 square foot finished studio apartment. It’s actually super nice looking inside!

The kitchen in this area is nice than the kitchen in the house! We plan on setting up a nice office space here, with plenty of room for inventory, and growing our Well Ordered Homeschool business!

For now, we will live in the studio apartment area while we finish fixing up the upstairs of the house. We need to do some drywall and we don’t want to have all that mess going on if we move in. Lord willing, I’ll have the baby here, which is a dream come true. The other option was to travel 45 minutes away and give birth at my midwives office, which is still a great option, but I love my homebirths!
