Clean Sweep: Organizing the Hall Closet!

Tuesday is here and it’s time to clean! I spent the weekend getting caught up on laundry. My laundry is done that was downstairs. I had a huge pile thanks to switching out spring/winter clothes but now I need to get all the laundry done that is upstairs!

Let’s dive into our challenges! We are halfway through!

Physical Challenge

Today we are cleaning the hall closet! Whether you have a devoted linen closet, or a hall closet, it’s time to clean it out! I actually am blessed to have three closets in our small hallway, so my lofty goal is to clean all three of them out.  My realistic goal is to clean the linen closet. 🙂 I’ll update you tomorrow with pictures of how it went.

Some things to keep in mind as you clean the closets:

How many sheet sets do you really need? If you are crammed for space, keep a set for on the bed and one clean set. Since we have home births, I also keep an older set of sheets for the time of giving birth and postpartum recovery. That way I don’t have to worry about any messes on nice sheets!

It can be easy to have bottles of cleaners and facial products just pile up in the linen closet. Go through them and seriously purge. If you don’t use it, throw it away. I don’t care if you spent $20.00 on that fantastic lotion 3 years ago at the Arbonne party, if you haven’t touched it in over a year and you know you never will, throw it away or give it to someone else! I have found sometimes I forget about a product that is tucked away. If you really want to use it, pull it out and put it in a prominent spot so you will remember it.

If you are going through a hall closet with coats, make sure you really do wear all the coats. 🙂

Spiritual Challenge

Do you praise your children? I don’t mean telling them that they look nice on Sunday morning when they are all dressed up. I mean praising them when they did a good job on sweeping the floor, praising them when they promptly got up in the morning, praising them when they gave good effort at setting the table.

As a stay at home mom it can be easy for me to see the faults in my children. I have five little ones that make lots of noise and messes home with me all day long, and I can let the weariness of the day make me only see the attitudes that need corrected. Our children desperately need our affirmation and love. Don’t give false praise, truly look for good attitudes and actions that you can praise them for.

Find at least 3 different reasons that you can bestow praise on each of your children today, and give each child a hug and a kiss at least once today! Let them know you love them!
