My September Birchbox Review!

This post may contain Affiliate Links. Thank you for your support!

Getting a monthly Birchbox in the mail is a super fun treat! I always look forward to it each month, and for $10 a month it’s an affordable splurge! I’ve tried so many new products and found new brands that I just love, which I never could have done otherwise.

When you fill out a profile with Birchbox you are given options of what styles you prefer. I have checked more natural products on mine, so I’ve even received organic products, which is awesome!

I wanted to show you the September box I received, and let you know what I like from it!

I'm loving the September Birchbox I received! Full of great sample products to try, from good quality companies!

Each month you get a new style of box, you can save them or trash them. They make good little containers for organizing!

Here is what I received.

Air Repair  Complexion Boosting Moisturizer. This is to be used after washing your face at night. Mom confession. It was super late and I was tired. I didn’t wash my face but I still put this on right before getting in bed and it felt lovely! Very smooth and soft.

Davies Naturaltech Replumping Hair Filler Superactive. Whew! What a name. I sprayed this in my hair after a shower and let it dry naturally. It felt great, and it felt like I had more body than normal. It’s supposed to help strengthen your hair, and moisturize. They included the bonus shampoo and conditioner, which I really liked using as well!

This is what came in my September Birchbox . It's such a fun package to get in the mail each month!

dr. Brandt Pores No More Cleanser. I haven’t had a chance to try this yet.

Rally Beauty Volumizing Mascara. This was just ok. If you want a mascara that gives you a lot of volume, don’t try this one. Even though it said it was a volumizing one, I didn’t think it was that great. However, it didn’t smudge at all, and wasn’t irritating. For just an everyday mascara it was fine.

Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek. This was interesting. It melts on contact with body heat for a sheer look. I used it as a blush on my cheeks. It was a really soft color, nothing to bold. When I used it on my lips, again the color wasn’t very strong, but it was soft and moisturizing feeling.

Each month you receive a card that gives you details on the products you received, as well as the price to purchase the full size product. I have purchased 2 full size products (well, one full size product and an amazing foundation brush), and it’s nice to know if the price is something you can afford, or just enjoy the sample for that month. 😉

Direct Sales Lip Gloss Review

This post may contain Affiliate Links. Thank you for your support!

We all seem to know a friend that sells something from a Direct Sales business. While some people can be pushy, if done right Direct Sales businesses can be an amazing blessing to moms!

I thought it would be fun to do a comparision of some name brand lip gloss from Direct Sales. It can be especially hard to order online and not know if the color will actually be the same when you apply it.

Disclaimer – the only company I’m involved with below is L’BRI Pure and Natural. I wasn’t paid to write these reviews, but I had the opportunity to work with some ladies involved in all these companies who sent me samples.

One more disclaimer – I took the pictures of the lip gloss on myself as selfies on my phone, and I didn’t have a mirror in front of me to apply any of the gloss. It’s not perfect. 😉 But it gives you an idea of the colors on someone, which I find helpful!

Argonne lip gloss

Arbonne

Pros – I love the container and the application stick. It has a soft brush that you use to apply the lip gloss, and it works well. The colors are true to appearance online. It’s a thicker lip gloss, and you don’t need a lot of it. This is definitely one of my top favorites.

The colors I have are Anise and Linden.

Arbonne lip gloss

Cons – The first time I put it on, it felt sticky. However since then I haven’t noticed that. The color doesn’t last as long as I wish it would.

Price –

Avon lip gloss

Avon

Pros – A large selection of colors to choose from, and the price is the lowest in all the lip glosses I tried. Easy to apply, and they are not goopy or sticky. The colors are not very bold, so if you are looking for a muted lip gloss, this might be for you.

Avon Lip Gloss

Cons – If you care about the ingredient list, this has a mega list of what is included.

Ava Anderson lip gloss

Ava Anderson (now called Pure Haven)

Pros – The biggest positive is that the color stays on well! I almost consider this to be a little more like a lip stain, instead of a gloss. I haven’t noticed it to dry out my lips, and the colors seem to apply true to picking them out online. If you are concerned about the ingredients list, this has a great list.

Ava Anderson Lip Gloss

Cons – Not very many cons to say! It’s not as thick as some of the others, so you have to use just a smidgeon more. Besides that, I really like it.

L'BRI Lip GLoss

L’BRI Pure and Natural

Pros – I feel like it’s a super moisturizing lip gloss. One tube lasts for quite awhile, and applies well. Wisteria is my favorite color. It’s a light natural looking color.

L'BRI Pure and Natural Lip gloss

Cons – I wish there were a few more color choices.

NYR Organic lip balm

NYR Organics

Pros – It’s made with super safe ingredients!  These colors seem to just give a little natural pop of color, they are not anything bright. If you want a skin colored lip gloss, these are some good choices. These lip glosses would be good to apply over a favorite lip stick, for some extra shine.

They felt moisturizing, and didn’t dry my lips out!

I like how each product is marked with a label, letting you know the percentage of organic products in it.

NYR Organics Lip Balm

Cons – I’m not crazy about gloss in tubes like this, it always is a bit more messy applying it.

You can shop through a party link here.

Younique lip gloss

Younique

Pros – The packaging is fantastic. The lip gloss has a mirror on the side of the tube, which is the greatest idea! The colors are pretty true to ordering online. I like the application stick, and the selection of colors available are nice. They also just came out with a new lip Bonbon product that looks really fun to try!

I love that they have a 14 day Love It Guarantee. If for any reason a customer is not satisfied with their product they can return it for a full refund (less shipping) within 14 days of receiving it. That makes ordering online a little less stressful!

Younique Lip Gloss

Cons – I felt like this lip gloss was a little drying.

I hope that helps you pick out some new lip gloss to try!

My Birchbox review for February!

I went for a few months without receiving any monthly subscription boxes, and then decided to try Birchbox. I was reminded that I wanted to try Birchbox when we started up Character Badges, and went to manufacture the fancy boxes the sets arrive in. The same box company makes all the cute Birchbox boxes and was saying I should really try the monthly subscription box and see if I like it.

If you haven’t heard of Birchbox, it’s set up just like Ipsy. For $10 a month you have a box shipped to you every month, which is full of very good quality makeup, skincare, and hair products. I have read quite a few reviews that Ipsy has more makeup products, and Birchbox has more skincare and hair products.

My February Birchbox! For $10 a month you have a box shipped to you every month, which is full of very good quality makeup, skincare, and hair products.

So why did I stop Ipsy and decide to try Birchbox?

I keep my makeup simple when it comes to my eyes. I like using a  simple application of mascara from L’BRI, and while I play around with different eye shadows, I don’t like using eye pencils or liquid eye liners. Maybe one day I’ll get it mastered and start using them, but for right now I’m ok with skipping it!

Ipsy was sending along an eye pencil or liquid every box, and even when I adjusted my settings I was still receiving it. I finally decided to just stop the monthly box, as I had built up quite a collection of pencils and liquid products sitting in my bathroom!

Another thing I really like about Birchbox is that it allows you to refer friends to their company, and earn points to purchase full size products in their store. With Ipsy you could only use the points to grab additional free sample size products, and it was very hit and miss when they would even put up new freebie products.

Yes, this email does contain my referral link for new friends that want to sign up with Birchbox. 🙂 If you want to try Birchbox, you should definitely share your own link with your friends on Facebook!

My thoughts on the February Birchbox.

I was a little nervous to get it, hoping I hadn’t just wasted $10, but I ended up loving it! This month you could pick to have the regular box sent to you, or a special Date Night box. I decided to get the Date Night box, and I’m so glad I did!

The February Date Night Birchbox! Receive a monthly box full of high quality makeup, skincare and hair products to try.

Wish Renew Mud Mask – This stuff was great. It was probably my favorite thing in the box, but I have 3 things I really love so it’s hard to pick my favorite! You could tell it was a high quality mud mask (full size product is $44) and I loved that it has naturally sourced and organic ingredients. It left my skin looking clear and healthy, and ready to apply makeup. I had never heard of this brand, and I would love to try more of their products!

Amika Bombshell Blowout Spray – My hair has been really dry and flat feeling all winter. I don’t always see results with hair products like others do, just because my hair is so long and thick. I sprayed this stuff on the top of my hair during a bad hair day, and it really lifted the roots, made it look more shiny and full of volume. I was amazed! You can use it on dry or wet hair.

Lip Tar – Not the most flattering of names, but I loved it. You just need a tiny drop and it keeps color on your lips for hours and hours. It didn’t dry out my lips, which was nice.

The February Date Night Birchbox! Receive a monthly box full of high quality makeup, skincare and hair products to try.

Cynthia Rowley Brightening Illuminator – This came with instructions on where to apply it on your face for the best results. It’s supposed to highlight and lift your face. They said you could mix it with your foundation, so I did. I didn’t really notice anything amazing with it, but I’ll try it again.

Catherine Malandrino Perfume – I knew this was going to be the one product I might not even try, just because I can hardly ever wear perfume without getting a headache. I can’t walk down the laundry detergent aisle at Walmart without feeling a headache start to come on! Most perfumes give me a major headache, so if I want to smell nice I use essential oils!

Overall I loved the box and will keep getting more!

I used some of these products along with my L’BRI makeup (all the makeup from L’BRI is 25% off this month!) for a fun look. I didn’t go anywhere special, but it made the day more special just by having nice makeup on!

I used L'BRI makeup, along with my Birchbox for a fun look! I first used the mud mask, then I applied the L’BRI liquid foundation, along with the L’BRI wet/dry powder. Blush and eye shadow came from my L’BRI makeup kit (I have this from my consultant kit), and the lip tar was my splash of color!

Makeup from Birchbox and L'BRI, for a nice date night look!

This is the finished look! It’s from my phone, so it doesn’t look super great, but it gives you an idea on the lip color. 🙂

Let me know if you end up signing up to try Birchbox! I’d love to hear how you like it!

DIY: Chocolate Lip Scrub For Dry Lips!

This post may contain Affiliate Links. Thank you for your support!

I’ve been drinking water, and putting on my absolute favorite lip balm (Mango & Ginger by Grove, only through ePantry. This stuff is amazing!). My lips are still really dry though, so I was going to purchase a lip scrub when I realized I could easily make one!

My weakness is chocolate, so the thought of a chocolate lip scrub sounded really yummy! This recipe is very easy to make, and I had everything in my pantry without a trip to the store for a special ingredient!

DIY Chocolate Lip Scrub for dry winter lips! It's super easy to make and you don't need special ingredients!

I don’t like doing super complicated projects, but this one is super easy to make. Here is what you need.

Ingredients for chocolate lip scrub

Ingredients

1 scant tablespoon coconut oil

½ teaspoon raw honey

½ teaspoon raw cocoa powder

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 tablespoons fine granulated sugar

1 tablespoon grated chocolate

Directions

Make a double boiler by putting water in one pan, and setting a pan on top of it, or just use an actual double boiler pan if you have one! Measure out a scant tablespoon of coconut oil, and melt it over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and add all the other ingredients. Mix together and pore into a small glass or metal container.

Store this out of direct sunlight, and discard after a year. If you find it’s runny, put it in in the fridge to harden for 10 minutes. The cold will make the coconut oil set up.

To use ~ Apply to your lips in circular motions. Scrub until you feel all the dry skin come off, and rinse well. Add your favorite lip balm and go find your husband and give him a big kiss! 😉
