Dressing Your Truth Review!

The Dressing Your Truth program has literally changed my wardrobe. I was so skeptical when I purchased this program if it would really do anything, but the confidence and knowledge it has given me has been a tremendous help!

The Dressing Your Truth program will totally change your wardrobe, and help you have a closet full of clothes you adore and that look good on you!

I’ve always been the more outgoing child. Sometimes I feel like I have more of a firstborn personality than my oldest sister. I’m bubbly, talkative, I enjoy being around people, and I enjoy bright cheerful things. This personality should naturally come through and be reflective in my clothing, but I’ve struggled to let that happen in years past, as I think I felt the need to fit into a certain mold.

I really don’t have to prove that I’m a conservative homeschooling mom by the more serious and somber colors of clothes. I can dress modestly AND let my personality come through with fun colors and prints! This course has really helped me be more confident in letting my personality shine, and dressing in a way that reflects who I really am.

So what is the Dressing Your Truth program really all about?

In the course you are presented with 4 different beauty types. The first part of the course is where you figure out why type you really are, then once you select the type, the course walks you through how to dress for that type, what accessories, makeup, and hair styles work your beauty type.

The 3 hour course teaches you about 5 different elements of style – color, fabrication, texture, design lines and pattern. As you learn about these elements of style, it all seems to suddenly make sense. You get a big picture approach on how to dress for your type, and what will and will not work for your beauty type.

Dress Your Truth Program - find out what colors look best on you and what texture and fabrics are best for you!

What Type Am I?

I’ve got to admit, it was hard to narrow it down. I have a little bit of each type in me, especially the 1, 2, and 4. But as I kept working through the course I could identify with the Type 1 the best, the Bright Animated Woman. I’m pretty sure my secondary type is a 4. So what does this all mean?

I’m working on purging black from my closet, and instead wearing a lot of navy blue. Navy is the new black, right? At least for Type 1’s. 🙂

LulaRoe Pink Nicole Dress. It's super bright and cheerful, and is a great knee length dress that is comfortable for everyday wear.

It was after I took the course that I decided to cut my long hair. I cut 13″ off, and have a “fun” hairstyle now, bouncy and fun!

A Before Look at my hair…

A knee length denim skirt with a comfortable striped sweatshirt and a fun blue scarf for my hair!

13″ cut and curled with hot rollers!

A blue cardigan from Stitch Fix, and a brand new hairstyle with curly hair!

Could this course help you?

If you feel like you have a solid grasp on your wardrobe, and already adore fashion and know what really works for you, then you probably don’t need this course.

If you struggle to know what looks good on you, what colors and styles really work for your body, then this would be a really good course to take!

A Disclaimer

I actually didn’t publish this review for several months, as I was trying to decide if I should. I try to only endorse something that I can stand behind 100%. This is going to be one of those times that I give a disclaimer on something I’m endorsing.

If you are a christian, you might find the first part of the course to be rather new age like. You have to relate to the elements of the earth, and it just felt a little out there. However once I got past that, the practical hands on stuff that came was amazing, and I’m so glad I stuck it out. I just want it to be clear that I’m not endorsing everything in the first section.

I recently went through a different course, thinking it might be the perfect course to suggest. I came back to this one, because it really did dramatically change how I look at what clothes I purchase.

Styling Cards

I can’t forget to mention the super helpful styling cards! Once you decide what type you are, they send you a large and wallet size style cards of colors that work for you. I keep the wallet size card with me at all times, and it’s really helpful when I’m out shopping!

Dress Your Truth Store

I also love going to the Dressing Your Truth store and looking to see what they have! I’ve never purchased anything from there, but I get a lot of ideas from the colors they have in my style. I went out shopping with my sister recently and came home with bright and cheerful clothes, even brighter color clothes for winter! And you know what? It made me so happy!

Normally this course is $297 to go through, but they have a special price of $99 going on through November 22th!

Instead of just getting access to the type you pick out for yourself, you will receive access to all FOUR types! This is actually really helpful, because a lot of people are dominate in one type, and can still relate to another type.

You also receive all four style cards sent to you, instead of just the one type you choose! This helps you even more when you are out shopping, you can take all 4 style guides and instantly know if a color is yours or not!

This course actually saves you money in the long run, because you stop buying clothes that you really don’t like! You will know what colors and fabrics work for you, and only purchase clothes that will truly work.

If you can’t afford the course right now, you can go through the free energy profiling course here. I haven’t gone through this so I don’t have many details on it, but it might still be a helpful course to go through.

One last thing….this course has even helped me be more confident in makeup colors! I totally go for brighter lipstick colors and have fun with eyeshadow, without going crazy and drawing a lot of attention to myself. 🙂

Let me know if you have any questions, or decide to go through the course!

  1. Great review. Where did you buy those top two print dresses? 🙂

  2. This summer I heard about Dress Your Truth. I watched the profiling videos and thought it sounded weird, but I definitely resonated with her description of a type 2 woman. I’ve spent years trying to overcome this “soft, subtle” nature and become more confident, loud and determined, even dressing in a lot of black and red. I eventually broke down and bought the course. I did the 30 day challenge and I don’t think I’ll ever dress the way I did before. I feel more beautiful, feminine, take more time to care for my appearance and feel much calmer now.

I also had the same concerns, particularly with almost everything she publishes on paper and in her videos. She has a lot of strange, non-Christian ideas, so I tend to not pay as much attention to those things, but I really loved the simple way everything is presented in the course and it’s not new-agey or weird. She really spends a lot of time affirming who each woman is on the inside and helps you reflect it on the outside.

  3. Type 1 here as well-I love DYT!! Not only was it an amazing help to me me in regards to my wardrobe selections, it helped me understand my personality better and realize why I have a hard time sticking to rigid routines and schedules and why my thoughts seem random… why I have always been very smiley, cheerful and chatty 🙂 Now I know why I love to do spontaneous, fun things at the drop of a dime and it’s okay! I also understand more about those around me by what type they are, and how to honor that. My husband is a three, and understand now why he is very action-driven and loves getting to the point in a conversation. It’s actually helped me communicate better with him! I have a type 4 dad and I’m starting to realize and appreciate more about him too and why things had to be done a certain way growing up. I agree, some parts of the course seem a little “out there” at first, but I’m so grateful I took it. Everyone can benefit from this and everyone will learn they are beautiful in their own, unique way! There is also content on finding the types of your children, and I love learning more about my type 1 daughter and her tendencies. So much of her personality I see in myself.

No more wondering why the latest fashion trends or hairstyles don’t look great on everyone. I also appreciate how the experts seem to lean more toward modest clothing selections 😉

Your outfits look great on you!! They reflect your happy and light, positive nature. I love the new hairstyle and how it brought your energy up! Yay!! Thanks for this post as I was eager to hear your thoughts! 🙂

  4. I have only done the free portion-which definitely had that undertone that was weird to me, but I did finish watching to find my result. I found it interesting, as someone who never put too much thought into fashion, to realize the obvious that our clothes are a first impression of our personalities. I agreed with the overall lines, etc of my type but not the color palette…at all! If I had a chance to rebuild my wardrobe based off the DYT course, I would use the lines, patterns, etc of DYT but with my seasonal color analysis color palette…

I agree with Katie, that it has helped me to understand different personalities better-my own as well as those of my family!

I love your new look. I’m a type 2/3. And I bought the course about 2 weeks ago. However, I had bought and read her book, It’s Just My Nature beforehand. I am currently working my way through, The Child Whisper. Since I had to work through some childhood issues, I had a hard time figuring out who I was as opposed to who I had to become to survive. Anyway, this second book helped me immensely. It was affirming. And it helps me better understand my two daughters and husband. I love DYT. Btw, many of the ladies are LDS, hence the modest fashion.

  6. I am also involved in dressing your truth and, wow, has it changed my style entirely. I was initially a little hesitant to wear some of the colors and makeup recommendations for my type 4 nature, but it really works! My skin glows when I wear my colors, I feel more confident, and I have some guidelines to help me as I shop. My advice to those who will try this program is to go all in! Don’t try to mix this with other programs, just trust the process. I’m so thankful I did!

  7. Hannah Avery says:

I just watched the free series, and think I am am a #1 and a #3. I realized that when the #3’s came out, I loved their clothes, and could really identify with the colors. I love all of these outfits on you, and it really brings forth your personality! Thanks for sharing this! May one day I’ll be able to afford to do the whole course, but it was very helpful!

  8. Great review, both pros and cons. I have just done the free introductory course and identified myself as Type 4. Now I realize why I’m more serious and reserved than my sisters, and am not trying to be like them. BTW, you look absolutely glowing!

  9. I have also gone through the course 3 times! The first time I thought I was a T1, and bought that, but returned it a month later because it seemed all wrong. I thought the whole thing was wrong. A year later I tried again, this time choosing T2. It seemed better, but not perfect. Both times I went through and purged my closet. This year, I reread her book, and since I still had the course, went through it again. I am a T2, with a secondary type 1. They have updated the material in the course, and this time it was very helpful.
One caveat, it IS new age thinking, with her “energy healing” and thoughts making reality happen, so be very aware of that as you watch other videos offered for your type, even in the fashion and beauty section.

    • I meant to add the this is the ONLY makeover program that makes sense. Plus, we get “permission ” to be who God made us to be, instead of changing us, inside or out to someone else’s ideal. All in all, this was very affirming to me.

  10. This sounds amazing and I could totally benefit from this, but dont have that kind of money to use lol But that sounds awesome and love that it gave you so much more confidence !!!

    • Katie, if you want to figure out your type, then go to the Dressing Your Truth store, you can get an idea of how to dress. Plus look at the makeover videos and pictures. That’s what I did before I could afford to buy it. Which was a gift. Look at all the free beauty stuff you can.

  11. Coming back to this because after watching the videos on the DYT site and looking at your pictures, especially the ones you posted today in your stitchfix(sp?) review, I really wonder if you are a dominant 4 with a secondary 1. Those bold colors with the contrast look great on you! However, you know yourself best!

    Blessings!

    • I tend to think I’m a secondary 4, which is why the bold colors look ok on me. 🙂 My personality lines up with a 1 way more than a 4.
