My Crazy Week And A Link Up

It’s been a long week.

I know I say that here sometimes (because any mom has those weeks that feel really long!), but this week has topped them all in quite awhile.

I woke up Wednesday feeling fine, got up and exercised, got dressed, and no sooner started devotions with the children, when I suddenly had chills and a fever come on. I went to bed, and it wasn’t long before my fever was 103. By early afternoon I needed help just to walk to the bathroom, and blacked out and fell to the floor.

I told my husband an hour later that I couldn’t walk to the bathroom again, and he got a chair to roll me to the bathroom. I never made it there, as I passed out over and over again in the chair. Fun times, right? It was pretty scary.

We called my doctor and the nurse said to go to the hospital right away. Sean carried me to the van, and we quickly took our children over to my sister’s house and headed to the ER. I grew up going to the ER more than I care to think about because of my mom being ill with epilepsy and Lupus. I kept telling myself it wasn’t the same thing, and to just be calm. The only thing I did tell Sean is that I hoped they would not have to do a spinal tap.

When we got the hospital I was having trouble breathing, and was so close to passing out again. They did an EKG because of the trouble I had breathing, and quickly got me hooked up on an IV with fluids. Some tests came back and they were able to rule out the flu. Finally the doctor said she hated to ask this of me, but she needed to rule out meningitis and wanted to do a spinal tap.

Just lovely. I manage to birth six children without an epidural and now I have to get a needle stuck in my back!

Sean and I talked for a long time, and finally agreed it was the best thing to go ahead and rule it out. I was scared, but yet wasn’t nearly as anxious as I thought I would be. Church friends were praying for me, which was so wonderful. The doctor did a great job, and it wasn’t as painful as I was anticipating. I’m sure she thought I was crazy, but I told her it was too bad I wasn’t getting a baby out of the deal. 🙂

Praise God, the test came back negative, so they released us to go home after I had lots of fluid. They did a blood culture test and we are still waiting the results of that. I’ve been in bed since we got home, and church friends have been bringing meals to us. My sister has had 2-3 of my girls all week, so it’s been rather quiet here. I had to stop nursing Sophia for awhile as I was so weak, and at one point thought we were totally done. Amazingly, she took to a bottle and organic formula without complaint. We are back to nursing and using formula, for which I’m thankful.

I’m gaining my strength back, but struggling with feeling like my head will explode whenever I sit up, or try to get up. I’ve been told it’s from the Spinal Tap, and I’m hoping it goes away very soon!

Obviously, there is no traditional Modest Monday post as I’m still recovering, but the link up is below like normal. Thanks for being patient, and hopefully I’ll be back to normal here soon!

  6. Oh wow, I can’t imagine how scary that must’ve been for you 🙁 I hope you feel better soon and that the doctors can give you some answers soon. A 103 degree fever in an adult is serious, and yet it’s our body’s way of trying to fight off whatever is going on. I had to have a spinal tap at eighteen due to having mono and ruling out meningitis, and it does take a little for your body to replace that fluid. I’m praying and guessing that yours was clear and not cloudy. And that’s so sweet you were thinking that you wanted a baby out of the ordeal 🙂

God is holding you in the palm of his hand and nothing will happen without His knowing it! You are strong and it sounds like you have a wonderful support system! We’ll continue to pray for you. Hang in there!

  7. Sorry that you haven’t been feeling well 🙁 I went through something similar; had to go to the ER wasn’t quite sure what was wrong. It is hard not feeling well and waiting to find out what is the problem. Praying for you!

  17. Sending prayers that you feel completely better quickly!! I can imagine it was a scary thing to go through. What a blessing to have people to help with the kids and make meals for you. I also had a mother who had terrible Lupus it is a long road to go through as a kid. I also got meningitis while I was pregnant years ago, it was no fun at all!!

  18. Did they check you for pneumonia?

I had almost the exact thing happen. Blood work showed no pneumonia, and my lungs sound clear, but on taking an X-ray, it showed a bad case of pneumonia. I ended up in the hospital with from it . My symptoms were pretty much the exact same thing only I went in on day 3.

Hope you get to feeling bette!

  19. Hannah Beth Reid says:

  20. Praying for you & that the house runs as smoothly as possible while you rest & recover. God bless husbands!

  21. This past February, I,too, had a lumbar puncture. I developed a horrible spinal headache. If it is really interfering with your quality of life, you might consider seeing if your doctor will help you get a blood patch put into the place of your puncture. It IMMEDIATELY relieved my spinal headache. I’ve read your blog every Monday for a long time… I pray you are healed and rested very soon!

  22. Caroline we hope you are feeling better by the time you read this letter. Will pray for a complete recovery and that the tests come back with results that all is well. God Bless
