My shoes are Skechers – a gift from a friend.  I put my hair up in a Gibson Tuck and I used a size small, Lilla Rose Festive Fallen Leaf Clip.  And then I put on a head-covering from Hannah’s Headcoverings.

This story was sent along with the entry and I wanted to share it. 🙂

I had a kind of funny experience in regards to that outfit … first, let me back up and say that I always wear skirts and dresses for everything (except for full culottes when horseback riding) and it amuses me when people talk about not being able to do activities in skirts.
So today, I put on that outfit to take pictures for the contest and even though I don’t usually wear it around the house since it is a “good outfit”, I left it on for several hours. Our neighbor came over to drop off a fruit basket and got her vehicle stuck in our muddy backyard while she was trying to turn around. Since there was no way she could get out on her own, I offered to pull her out with my brother’s 4×4 pickup. Usually my brother or father pull out stranded vehicles but neither one was home so the responsibility fell to me. As I was bending down in the mud, trying to hook the chain around our neighbor’s vehicle, I looked at my clothing and thought “hope I don’t ruin this outfit!” Thankfully, I kept my clothes clean, pulled the neighbor out of the mud and all was well.
A couple hours later, my Labrador went into labor – I knew that she was close to birthing, but didn’t know that she was this close! As I’m trying to hold her in place and keep her from getting “bluck” all over our bedroom floor, I had a déjà vu moment … “hope I don’t ruin this outfit!” And sure enough, by the time I was able to change into garments that were better suited for the birthing room, my “good outfit” was still in good condition 🙂
Who says you can’t play tow-truck-pulling-the-neigbor-out-of-the-mud and birthing assistant while wearing a pretty, modest outfit?!

Entry 4.

I’m a teenager (18) and I really enjoy reading your blog.  Here are some pictures of me in the outfit I wore for Christmas.  It’s very simple, but that’s mostly what I wear: simple and comfortable.

The dress is homemade, the turtleneck I found at a thrift store, and the boots I found a couple of weeks ago at Ross.  They’re actually almost knee-high, and I highly recommend them for warmth.  They’re suade and *so* cozy.

Entry 5.

About the outfit:
The SKIRT I made;
the T-SHIRT, Walmart;
DENIM JACKET, hand-me-down from friends
SCARF and BELT, from an auntie
SUNGLASSES, a birthday gift from my brother
BOOTS, hand-me-down from a friend.

Entry 6

The dress is a sleeveless empire waist dress made from jacquard knit fabric. The front skirt seams have hidden pockets.I made this dress last June. I am wearing a black 3/4 length cardigan with it and my necklace is from JCpenny that I got on Black Friday.

Entry 7.

The white shirt is a Goodwill find.
The skirt I made. The pattern for it comes from Joanns. The boots are from Payless and the scarf from Kohls. My favorite dressy outfit!

Entry 8.

Jean skirt – Christopher and Banks
                          Grey leggings – kohls
                          Black boots – Famous Footwear

Entry 9.

Dress: Made by me using the Washi Dress pattern from Made by Rae
Boots: Kohls
Cardigan: Forever 21
Skirt and shirt in front of house:
Shirt: It’s actually a vintage dress tucked in.
Skirt: Banana Republic
Cardigan: Gap

Entry 10

The first one with the turquoise blouse is one of my new favorites. I wore it to the Governor’s Christmas party that I attended with my husband this year. I bought the skirt at a second hand store and the shirt I found on clearance. The shoes were more of a splurge at $20. However, I love that I can tuck in the shirt and still have a girlish figure. I like to look feminine. I’m a girl aren’t I?! And I love the shoes. It compliments the lower flair of the skirt.
The second outfit I’ve worn many times because, well, its so comfortable. I bought the skirt and sweater at a second hand store. Combined they cost me about $13.00 together. The mock turtle neck shirt I got at Target a few years ago for $10. You can’t really see the shoes but they are brown baby-doll shoes I got on clearance at Target for $10. This outfit is my go-to when I know I will be moving around a lot like at a church function.

  6. Connie Sue R. says:

  7. I love entry #6 the most. It’s beautiful!

  8. I like Entry #10 🙂 It’s not labeled as 10, but the last one.

  9. I like the look & story from outfit #2 the most, but all of these outfits are lovely!

  10. I like entry #2. I like some of the others as well, but since I don’t like wearing scarves, I didn’t choose those.

  11. I can’t decide between 1, 6, and 9 🙂

  12. #6! Could be in a magazine – so pretty!

  13. #6 is my favourite

  30. Lisa Hagen says:

I love 1 and 2! Of course I’m big on head coverings too! 🙂

  31. Everyone did a great job from thrift store finds to making your own clothes. It is hard to decide because some are casual everyday outfits and others are dressier. They are all nice. I think I will vote for #9 because she was creative and used a vintage dress as a shirt on her second entry. I would have never thought of that. I’ve seen cute vintage dresses and prints that I think are so cute but I wouldn’t look good in the entire dress. So thank you #9 for the creative idea!

  42. I vote for number #07. The skirt is gorgeous!

  43. The pattern for the #7 skirt is Butterick B5042.

  44. This is hard. I make skirts like #5. But #1 and #8 look like something I would wear a lot. I guess I’ll go with #1 because of the plaid.

  45. I vote for #7! I really like the skirt.

  62. My fav’s are # 6 & #9.

  63. #5 for me

  64. It’s a toss-up…but I’ve got it down to #1 & #10! I like #10 alot because those kind of skirts are totally me! 🙂 But #1 has the flexi-clip & the layered shirts/tops! So I think I’ll choose the #1! Great job, tho, to all the modest-dressing ladies!! (Here & all over the world!)

  65. #9 for sure!! I love the dress in the first photo!

  66. Jenn Bontrager says:

I will go with entry #9 the dress is adorable!

  89. My vote is for #7

  90. I Vote For #6. But I also love #7. It was hard to choose. It’s a balance between simplicity, modesty, femininity and practicality. If we get out of sync with any of these, I believe, will give a less attractive outfit.

  91. I love #9!

  92. #6 is my favorite! Simple, classic, modest.

  93. Really like # 7!

  142. I’m having a really hard time choosing between 6 and 9 but I’m going to go with 6 because of the higher neckline. I’ve found that for myself, a dress like #9 on the left is only modest when standing straight and tall, but not when bending, reaching forward, etc. But I do love the look of it and I think it’s great both girls made their own dresses.

  143. Number 6!

Great job, ladies!!

  195. No.9 “Shirt & Skirt in front of the house is my fav!! Love that skirt!!
