I’ve been trying to exercise a lot lately. I’m participating in a 10 week fall challenge that Fit Yummy Mummy is sponsoring right now. The workouts take just 15 minutes a day, so it’s very doable for a busy mom. So far I’ve lost 4 pounds, so I’m happy with that! My husband and I have also been trying to train for a 5K. I’ve never ran in my life, so I think my first 5K will consist of running and walking. Our oldest son really wants to go with me, so we will let husband/daddy run and I’ll run/walk with our son.
With all this exercise I’ve been trying to drink a lot of water! It’s very important to me that I drink good water. Growing up we always either bought water from the health food store, or we drank water from a filter at home. Once I was married, I found that I just didn’t drink very much water unless I still purchased water from the health food store as the taste was so different. So for almost 10 years now my sweet husband has been filling up huge jugs of water for me to drink. It’s the little things that make you aware of how much someone loves you.
A few years ago I started hearing about Berkey Water systems. My sister and brother in law purchased a large system last year and they are very pleased with how well it works. I was recently sent a sport water bottle to try from The Bulk Herb Store (one of my favorite health stores online!), and I think the concept is so neat.
You fill the water bottle up with whatever water you have around you. I’ve even seen videos of people using stream water! There is a small filter inside the bottle that the water goes through. This filter removes unwanted extras such as aluminum, cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, mercury, and other dangerous heavy metals.
The Berkey Sport Water bottle has a shelf life of 50 years! You can replace the filter after using it 640 times with normal tap water! That’s a lot of refills.
Overall I’ve been very happy with the water bottle. I took it on a church retreat and happily filled it up, even at a gross bathroom faucet, knowing that it would come through filtered. My only complaint is that the water does not come through as fast as I would like, but I have to remind myself that it’s being filtered so it goes through a step before reaching my mouth. You can either squeeze the water bottle or just suck through the straw. I normally squeeze it, which works well.
